Where In The World // Little Rock City Near Ellicottville, NY for Hiking & Views
As some of you know, I’ve been a little quiet on here and on social media this week because we got married over the weekend! It was a really great week of hiking, biking, and partying hard in Ellicottville, NY. And one of my favorite parts was this really rad spot in Rock City State Forest called Little Rock City—just a few kilometers from the spot we were staying (and wedding-ing!).
It’s basically a huge outcropping of rocks with burly hiking trails that intersect above, below and all around them, and it honestly does look like a weird prehistoric city. With all the green trees and plants, it felt like being in Jurassic World… I was on the lookout for raptors during my runs, not going to lie.
Just a super rad, super fun place to explore—and the hiking trails aren’t exactly super-groomed. It’s a pretty burly hike, lots of climbing involved, and tons of rocks and roots to contend with. I was psyched to have a 2 mile stretch of road (mostly gravel) before and after the trail for good warm ups and cool downs!
But poking around this area was definitely a highlight. We tried to send as many guests as we could to check it out!
Apparently, there’s also great camping almost right on site (we could smell campfires) and the bouldering is supposedly amazing, but with all the rain we got, it was a little too wet to try to do much (and I didn’t want to wreck my nails ahead of the wedding, full disclosure).
No MTB-ing allowed, but right across from it is a ton of amazing, technical, gnarly MTB trails, or you could do an epic gravel ride up to the top, lock your bike and meander around for a while. If you’re ever in the area, definitely check it out. (And stay tuned for more awesomeness from Ellicottville. It’s an amazing spot.)
