Outdoor Edit // Straw Fedora, Must Be Summer
Love this // Since I’m making an attempt to be somewhat stylish despite wearing running shorts 95 percent of the time… Every summer since I was probably 16, I buy a straw hat. (OK, when I was 16 it was a straw cowboy hat. Everybody makes mistakes.) In the past three years, I have bought three straw fedoras. And the story is always the same. They fit OK (or a bit small, my head is huge, apparently), but I end up not wearing them and then cramming them in the car or a closet where they get squished. Next summer, I repeat the process. I tried to resist the urge this year, but I fell in love with this one (above), so I’m making my summer resolution to wear the damn hat.
Eat this // I am 110 percent about guacamole anytime in the year, but especially in the summer. But while avocados are healthy, they are pretty high in calories. So my guac tends to be pretty tomato, cilantro and red onion heavy—sort of a guacamole salad, if you will. If you’re looking for a last minute 4th of July picnic crowdpleaser, watch my guacamole salad how-to video here, and show up with guac and chips (and margaritas) to be the hero of the party.
Read this // “The hair is magnificent. It’s chestnut-brown with blondish streaks, and it brushes the shoulders of Sagan’s rainbow-striped jersey, which he wears because he’s the sport of road cycling’s reigning world champion. It is not the hair of a typical bike racer. It is the hair of a man who holds a sword while fighting a tiger—and perhaps a two-headed eagle—on the cover of a fantasy paperback.” Thank you, Jason Gay, for writing this hilarious and amazing profile of Peter Sagan for the Wall Street Journal.
Before You Go // July is going to be crazy-busy for us, but in the best way possible. I have a bunch of talks coming up, so keep an eye on my new Events page and try to make it out to say hi—more are getting added every week! And make sure you check out our new podcast, The Consummate Athlete if you dig cycling content but are considering branching into other sports this summer, too. Upcoming episodes include a ton on how to get and keep your kids active and healthy, and a para-triathlete who’s had a huge comeback from serious adversity. And our most recent episode with Reese Wells is all about distance touring and hiking. So rad!
