Life After Your First Marathon—The Struggle is REAL

Over on MapMyRun, I explored this concept of WTF do you do after you finish your first marathon… or really, after any big athletic accomplishment. It’s especially tough when it wasn’t something you particularly loved. For me, for example, after we did Ironman back in 2017, I didn’t really have an urge to sign up for another Ironman, but at the same time, I knew I needed some other goal on the horizon—and I didn’t want to waste the endurance capacity that I had built up. It was a weird time, but luckily, every time I hit a milestone in my racing—marathon, IM, my first triathlon, etc.—something else was always at least sort of on the horizon. (Thank you, cyclocross season!) But if you only got into running and training to do a marathon, what’s next can be murky. SOOOO I looked at a few ways to get through that early post-race ennui. Check it!
