I’m a Runner Who Used MyFitnessPal for a Month, Here’s What Happened
I’m a total sucker for a story that forces me to adopt new habits and see how they go. It’s built-in accountability and, for me, it’s one of the few types of accountability that really, really work. Deadlines…
Anyway, last month, I started using the MyFitnessPal app for a MapMyRun.com story, and it was not the easiest 30 days, if I’m going to be honest. I’m not much for logging data (ask every single coach I’ve ever worked with) and since I wrote for a living, adding more writing to the day is never an easy addition. But luckily, I wasn’t hoping to develop a habit of logging what I ate, I was trying to use the month to see what the heck I was actually eating. So, having a shift from ‘I’m logging and that’s the habit’ to ‘I’m trying to deduce what I can tweak in my diet for optimal performance’ made it a little less difficult.
While I don’t think anyone should be keeping a food log 100% of the time, I do think it helps illuminate issues that are flying under the radar… So, if you’re interested in how I made it through the month, some tips on how to make the app work best for you as an athlete, and what happened to me after, check out the article!
