How Elite Runners Stay Healthy Over the Holidays (It’s Simple, Promise.)

You all know how much I love a) healthy holidays and b) New Year’s Resolutions stories. So naturally, when MapMyRun asked me to write about how elite runners manage to stay on track during the holidays, my heart sang. It’s always been a huge toss-up for me: Really dig in and enjoy this next week, or be a super pro athlete who couldn’t possibly have a second glass of wine. And then, I spent three years in Europe with the Aspire Racing crew and realized that even at the highest level of the sport, the pros were OK indulging a bit around the holidays. I ate funnel cake with Ellen and drank mulled wine with Jeremy … and then we would make fantastic meat and veggie stews and other healthy dinners to balance it out. I know this comes as a total shock (kidding) but it seems like moderation might be the answer after all! But don’t take my word for it, check out what other pros had to say—some of their advice might speak to you more than me just saying ‘chill out.’
