Athletic Identity + Nutrition Questions on The Consummate Athlete Podcast

Last week on The Consummate Athlete Podcast, Peter and I got really deep into what athletic identity means to us/what it can mean to different people. It’s something I struggle with on and off, because at my core, I’m not a pro athlete and honestly, I don’t think I’d want to be one—I’ve had the chance to race and train at a pretty high level, but I’ve always prioritized my writing career. I love where I’m at now and definitely am in a good place with my athletic identity, but it does screw me up from time to time. And after we released this episode, I got a ton of messages and emails from people saying the exact same thing, so I’m really glad we took the time to address the topic and talk about what being a Consummate Athlete means to us—being someone who can do a multitude of movements and modalities and have fun doing them… it’s not about a certain 5K time or body comp number.

We also got into some really basic sports nutrition questions. I realized after the last 3 camps I’ve coached that there is a huge lack of basic nutrition knowledge out there, which makes fad diets all the more dangerous/alluring. So, we try to break it down into super simple info. You likely have heard a lot of this before, but I’ve found that a refresher is never a bad idea!
