For those of you who don’t know, I’m mid-working on a book about Cyclocross in the US through Deeds Publishing. And I couldn’t resist, this quote was too good to not share immediately! It’s from an interview with Katie Compton for the book, which is due out in September.
“You’re racing each other but you’re racing yourself, and there’s that battle inside your head with when to suffer and if you should chase that next person down, your feet are numb, your hands are cold, you’re feeling crappy … but you do it because it’s cross and wimps don’t race cross.”
It’s coming along great, and it’s been a blast getting to know people like Katie Compton, Kaitlin Antonneau, Tim Johnson, Joan Hanscom, Molly Cameron and Stu Thorne a lot better in the process of interviewing them. Just did a great interview with Hanscom today, and we spent a good chunk of it talking about issues in women’s cycling: what an awesome lady!
It’s been a coffee-fueled push to get this book going on top of all of my other jobs, and with new, exciting projects coming up from so many different sources all the time, but I’m loving every minute of it!
The only hard part is when it’s gorgeous out and I’m working on our back porch (my second “office”) and my mountain bike looks so forlorn, begging to be ridden. Luckily, I think riding is the best way to cure writer’s block!
