So my Goal for this week should clearly be to actually follow through with my goals, because I’ve been doing a crappy job of it so far. I admit, I didn’t stretch at all the week I promised to stretch daily, and I can tell I really need to start. I’ve been working figuring out some training stuff for the summer, but I’ll discuss that at some point soon once I get details worked out. I will be attempting to do the whole “stretch daily” thing, and make every effort to do a set of 5 sun salutations when I wake up in the morning… We’ll see how that goes.
In the meantime:
I’ve had a crazy weekend. We had a 75 mile hill ride to and from Vegan Treats in honor of Mark’s move to Texas in a couple weeks. I’m going to miss him big time, he’s been like a brother to me. We had a blast on the ride, despite my knee going out with 30 miles to go. My left leg got a serious workout picking up the slack.
Then, yesterday I was in Philly for a work conference, my first professional conference ever. It was really interesting and it was great seeing my boss and coworkers. Working from home is great but I love interacting every once in a while with those I spend 8 hours a day emailing.
After the conference, I met some of my favorite Philly cyclocross friends for a quick drink- Russian Imperial Stout, yum- at Prohibition before heading to El Vez, an amazing Mexican restaurant for dinner with my boss and coworkers. That was hilarious (it turns out one of my bosses is actually someone I did Masters swimming with last year, but didn’t recognize him in a suit rather than a bathing suit!)
Then, I managed to make my way to Barnes and Noble to meet an old friend who I haven’t seen in 5 years. We ended up sitting in a park from 9 pm until 1 am, and only left because he needed to catch the last train. We had a lot to catch up on, since the last time he saw me, I couldn’t run a mile if my life depended on it. He also spent the last 5 years traveling around the world, so we had a whole lot of stories to share! It made me realize that I need to spend more time seeing people that I care about, so I have plenty of plans with him and my other friends down there in coming weeks. I’ve been striving to find more balance in my life, and I’ll be going back to Philly next Monday for a mini-birthday celebration (I’m 24 on Saturday) with a friend I haven’t seen in ages. I’m super excited.
I need to focus on some serious training and nutrition changes to my schedule, but that goes hand in hand with my other big news. After spending a week with the Team Mountain Khakis guys, I realized something: I’m working 80 hour weeks and not eating right, not training right, and feeling stressed out all the time. Something had to give, I had to find a balance. So, I made the decision that the internship I was in would be done when June ended, so I could have more time to train, not feel as stressed, and have some amount of a life. Not to mention, it allows me more time to travel around for Cyclocross Magazine stuff, since I’ll almost exclusively be working from home. I’ll also have more time to post here, hopefully. Here’s to living the dream!
