Talking Quick Workouts, Colds, New Movements & When to Start Training on The Consummate Athlete Podcast

This Q&A episode of the Consummate Athlete Podcast was an absolute blast because a) we were actually in the same place, and that place was our condo with our full recording setup; and b) we’d just come off off a ‘free’ weekend where we weren’t traveling, so I was finally feeling fully recovered and back to myself after a little rough patch a couple weeks ago. For those of you new to this site or to the podcast, my husband—and a SmartAthlete coach and kinesiologist—Peter Glassford and I cohost a show where we talk to different experts in a huge variety of sports and fields, from NASCAR drivers to NFL players to ultrarunners to golf pros to sports scientists to coaches to regular people who are just crushing it at a bunch of different sports and having fun living a consummate athlete lifestyle. We also do monthly Q&A episodes that focus more on the training/healthy living side of being a well-rounded athlete, and that’s what this week’s episode is all about.

Anyway, we chat a bunch about our two current obsessions: Olympic lifting for Peter and yoga for me, but also about how those are applying to the rest of our training. But then we dive into a few cool questions, including motivating to workout with only 30 minutes free (and what to do with the 30!), plus taking care of colds / how to train when sick, some new movement stuff, and when to start training for a far-off goal. I also chat about the new blue light-blocking glasses I’ve been using that both look decent and like normal glasses but really feel like my eyes are relaxing when I wear them during the day while typing and at night while reading on my iPad… and a couple other fun fitness/health things we’ve added to our new place!
