Talking Off-Season, Smart Trainers and Run Training in Cyclocross on The Consummate Athlete Podcast

Starting to get the off-season blues? Except for the pros, cyclocross in the US (with the exception of Nationals) has tapered off, and there are plenty of people who’ve been in the off-season for a couple months already, but are finally starting to feel the cold weather start to impact their rides, runs or whatever training that they’re doing. It can be a tough time of year: less daylight means less time to get outside, the cold air makes the group ride seem awful instead of awesome, the MTB trails are too muddy/snowy/icy to ride, and you’ve gotten over how much “fun” riding the trainer is. (Or at least, that’s me.) Anyway, in this Consummate Athlete Podcast Q&A, Peter and I tackle a few things about the off-season and how athletes can use it to their advantage to come back stronger next season—plus some common mistakes that people make. We also talk smart trainers (not always the most genius of ideas!) and getting started with running for cyclocross (this part is a must-listen for CXers!). It was a fun episode, since I know what I have to look forward to—snow—when we get back to Ontario in a month, so it was good for me to think ahead… and stop feeling annoyed about rain and 40 degree temps in Belgium. That’s balmy compared to Collingwood right now! Anyway… Give it a listen and let us know what you think! (Did you know you can rate and review in the iTunes app now?! Do us a huge favor and let us know what you like, what you don’t, and what you want to hear more of!)
