Outdoor Edit // Chilly, Wet and Rainy
We’re up in Ontario for a week so I’m taking serious advantage of time outside and time in one place. We’re even farm-sitting for a few days! But the weather is starting to turn, temps are dropping and rain is more and more frequent. Which is part of the whole ‘fall’ thing, but I always find the transition really painful. (And chilly.)
Love this // 7mesh Women’s Revelation Rain Jacket. I know I just published an article on DIY versus buying things, but… There’s something to be said for really well-made, burly gear that can last years, and works perfectly. And when it comes to time spent outside, especially in bad weather, I am a firm believer in having the right gear. Peter and I were walking in the rain yesterday and talking about how a couple years ago, we wouldn’t have been outside at all that day, but now that we have the right accessories, it wasn’t even a debate whether we’d get outside or not. And this jacket is insane. Water literally beads off of it—so much so that when we finished a rainy hike, I shook it off, and when I went to stuff it in my bag, it was totally dry. It’s also really well fitted, with great pockets and a longer back for your riding. It’s ultra-light, ultra-packable, and in basic black and with such good tailoring, it actually doesn’t look silly wearing it around town!
Try this // I’m going to write a full post on this in the next few weeks, but I’ve been doing a short core routine every morning followed by my quick yoga routine, and I have to say, it’s been crazy impactful. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I felt like my core was this strong, and it really does kick off the morning in a good way (and guarantee that even if I don’t get in a workout for some reason, I did something.) Funny enough, I started doing this after Peter left for Ontario, and after a week, he mentioned that he had started morning core as well—despite not talking about it together! Great minds think alike, I guess, and it’s nice now that we’re back in the same place to have a similar morning ritual. (Check out his anywhere-core video here.)
Read this // One of my favorite Canadian women’s mags, Flare, did a fantastic article/timeline of all of Gwyneth Paltrow’s humble brags about her friendship with Beyonce, and it is legit hilarious. 21 Times Gwyneth Low-Key Bragged About Her Friendship With Bey is just so, so good, guys. (H/T Fug Girls for this!)
April 2011: Gwyneth interviews her pal Jay-Z for the GOOP website at one point shoe-horning this mega-brag into a question: “As someone who has walked through museums with you, eaten with you, heard music with you, I know firsthand how creativity in all areas lifts your consciousness.” We get it Gwyneth—you hang.
Before You Go // For once, I’m going to leave this one blank. New book and subsequent book launch details are coming soon, but for this weekend and a couple days next week, I’m off the public grid, and enjoying some farm work, training, and quiet time for writing. Woot!
