On Sunshine, Riding Bikes and Current Mindsets
It’s been a busy month and a half with a ton of travel, but really, what else is new? Peter and I made it to the West Coast (both of us, finally!) and have been enjoying some sunshine and—for me—a serious return to riding. I’ve been on the bike, a lot.
The first week I was back was spent getting back on the road and in the saddle. I’ve been running a ton while I was on the road all fall for cyclocross season (managing and writing instead of racing meant no bike, and not a ton of time for long rides, while long runs were more realistic). So I had the fitness, but needed to remember how to spin the cranks and how to survive big days on the bike in the heat. It’s been an adjustment.
But that said, the sunshine makes it amazing no matter how tired I am by the end of the day! And for the first time, since I’m only riding and not doing any running outside, I have wicked, wicked cycling tan lines.

But it was for a good reason—Peter and I are in the middle of coaching a camp for some of Ontario’s fastest junior and espoire racers, so I’ve been racking up the miles the past few days. We’re on our first rest day of the camp (which still includes core and a short ride) so I’m just now pausing to catch my breath and catch up on some more personal writing and life stuff, as opposed to the work stuff I’ve been doing the other nights post-ride.
I admit, I had a few moments in recent weeks where my motivation has been a bit flat, and I have a couple of posts that I’ve been working on that relate to that a bit, so stay tuned for those, but suffice to say that I am officially back!
Some pretty exciting projects coming up in the near future, so stay tuned for those—I just had a great call with one of the people involved with a new facet to our crazy outdoor adventuring life this morning, and I am psyched! 2016 is going to be an amazing year, and it’s off to a fantastic start.
