All About ‘Mindful Running’ with Mackenzie Havey on The Consummate Athlete Podcast
MacKenzie Havey just released her first book, Mindful Running, and when I spotted it on Twitter, I knew I had to get my hands on it.. and that we needed her to come on the podcast. MacKenzie is a blast to interview—she’s a longtime running journalist, a coach, and what I really love about her is that she’s continued her education after college in whatever direction moved her. One way was towards mindfulness with the U Mass class that focuses on it—and that helped spur along her decision to write this book about, basically, moving meditation. We chat a ton about what it means to be mindful, exactly, and how it can not only make your run do double duty as meditation, but actually improve your running overall. It’s not just for runners, though—any endurance sport can benefit from some of the principles that she lays out. (I know a cyclist who’s reading it and loving it, just replacing running with riding in her mind as she goes through!)
Side note: The Athletic Bookworms are also plowing through Mindful Running, so make sure you pop over to that page and join the discussion!
