For a lot of years, I was a happy vegan athlete. For personal reasons, I’m not a vegan anymore, but I consider it a really great lifestyle option for anyone, athlete or otherwise, when it’s done right. When I was a vegan, I vacillated between being a junk food-a-holic eating tons of vegan fast food, to the occasional ultra-healthy moments (they were few and far between in my early years of training and racing). So when MapMyRun wanted me to talk to a bunch of pro vegan athletes and experts, I was psyched because I knew just what to ask, and what the pitfalls tended to be (because I made them myself).
